New Pier For Old Donarm Construction Ltd are currently working at Castlebay Pier to construct a new pier on top of the old pier. The decision to go ahead with the construction work was made following surveys which revealed that the old pier had an estimated life span of 10-15 years. The design for the construction work is such that a new pier is effectively being built on top of the old pier with new supports drilled down to the seabed through the old pier. When the old pier comes to the end of it’s lifespan it is designed to collapse to the seabed leaving the new pier still standing in its place. The cost of the project is in the region of £450,000.00 and 1,700 tonnes of concrete have been used in its construction. |
